Renting on Fishers Island

We're as excited to introduce new people to Fishers Island as we are to welcome back old friends. We take deep joy in hearing about how the stresses of your mainland life drain away within hours of arriving.

Below you'll find the houses that we currently have available for rent on Fishers Island, but keep checking back, as we frequently add houses as more Fishers Island homeowners become aware of this new rental service.

We've also put together a quick reference below to answer many of your questions about the services and amenities that are available on Fishers Island. For most of the rental houses there is an additional utility and cleaning charge.

If you have any additional questions or would like to speak with one of us to arrange your stay, please call us at (631) 788-7921 or e-mail us at info@shuttersandsails.com

Groceries

There is a small but full-service supermarket on the island, also a cafe/convenience store with extended hours.

Gas and Auto Care

Two gas and service stations, one with gas dock for boats. Both are open Mon - Sat.

Medical

Full time island doctor who accepts most medical insurance (copay required). Emergency medical is via ambulance and ambulance boat to Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London or airlift (for extreme cases).

Trash

The island requires everyone to bring trash to the transfer station. Be sure to separate out paper products, bottles and cans, and cardboard and follow instructions. Open most days.

Law Enforcement, Emergencies

April - October there are two New York State Troopers. Most emergency services are coordinated through the all-volunteer fire department, including ambulance services. Call 911 for any emergencies.

Dining

In the late spring, summer and early fall, enjoy surprisingly good Pub fare at the Pequot Inn, burgers, fries and pizza at the Community Center, and top-rate homemade ice cream and other treats at Topper's ice cream parlor.

Entertainment

What shall I say here? Island Concert series, movie theater, school performances, Library talks, Hay Harbor weekly dance, community events at the American Legion, what else?

Churches

The island has three churches: Our Lady of Grace (Roman Catholic), Union Chapel (U.C.C), and St. John's Church (Protestant Episcopal)

Telephone coverage

The island is fully equipped with telephone coverage, but most rental homes do not include telephone access. Be sure to inquire if you have particular telephone needs.

Cell phone coverage

Most of the island has good cellular coverage by Verizon, ATT, T-Mobile and Sprint. Your mileage may vary.

Internet Access

Many rental houses include the latest DSL technology connections or microwave links to the mainland for even faster connection speeds. Be sure to inquire about houses of interest.

Water and Utilities

Most homes are served by the island's public water supply and electric grid (powered by a cable to the mainland), and have septic systems. Be reasonable and responsible in how you use them.
